Five days exploring northern Iceland’s trout and char waters
Spend five days exploring rivers in northern Iceland, returning each evening to Long Valley Lodge.
Our new River Hopping Adventure combines remote highland waters, varied river fishing, and a comfortable lodge base. The focus is Arctic char and brown trout in their late-summer and early-fall colours, with opportunities for Atlantic salmon.
Each fishing day takes you to a different destination. For anglers who enjoy exploring new water and adapting their approach, that variety is what makes this trip special.
The fishing
The program draws on fisheries including the Northern Highlands, the Svartá, Kolka, and Hofsá/Runukvísl. Your itinerary will feature five-day tours, with the destinations and order subject to conditions.
These waters offer a range of challenges. Some stretches require a careful, technical approach; others lend themselves to covering water and swinging flies. Both single-handed and light double-handed rods have a place in the program, with opportunities to fish nymphs and streamers.
Arctic char and brown trout are the main targets. Some of the waters offer chances at Atlantic salmon.

A typical fishing day
Breakfast is served at the lodge at 8 AM, followed by departure for the day’s fishery at 9 AM.
You’ll spend the morning fishing, stop for lunch on the riverbank around 1 PM, and continue fishing through the afternoon. At around 6 PM, you’ll head back to Long Valley Lodge, where dinner is served at 8 PM.
You’ll explore new water each day without having to pack up and move accommodation.
