Battle Hill Lodge

Battle Hill Lodge is our dedicated base for chasing Iceland’s powerful sea-run brown trout. Guests fish the rivers of the Skaftá system, including Vatnamót, Geirlandsá and Fossálar, surrounded by the dramatic landscape of Iceland’s south coast.
Spring and autumn bring the main sea-trout seasons, offering two very different opportunities to target these remarkable fish.

2027 availability: Spring bookings are now open. Fall dates will be released after the 2026 season, once returning guests have had first option to rebook their weeks.

When to Fly Fish in Iceland in 2027
April

April marks the beginning of Iceland’s fly-fishing season. At Lake Þingvallavatn, the early season offers the chance to target some of Iceland’s largest wild brown trout, while the south coast season begins with sea-run browns on the rivers around Battle Hill Lodge.

May

Trout fishing really comes to life in May. Lake Þingvallavatn remains a major draw for trophy brown trout, while Arctic char fishing improves as spring progresses. Battle Hill continues its spring sea-trout season, and fishing opportunities begin opening farther north.

June

July is prime summer fishing and one of the most versatile months to visit Iceland. Salmon runs strengthen across the country, trout and Arctic char fishing remains excellent, and the first good runs of sea-run Arctic char begin entering the rivers.

August
