Sea-run Arctic char on the fly
During summer, Arctic char move from the sea into Greenland’s rivers. Fresh arrivals are bright silver and powerful, while fish that have spent longer in freshwater develop the orange and red colours for which the species is known.
The clear water adds another dimension to the fishing. Where conditions allow, you can spot fish, plan your approach and watch their response to the fly. Streamers, nymphs and dry flies all have a place, with your guide helping you choose an approach for the water and conditions.
A 5- or 6-weight fly rod is a useful starting point for this fishing, offering plenty of enjoyment when a strong char takes hold in the current.
Six full days to explore
With six full fishing days, there is time to explore beyond a single stretch of river.
Some days may be spent on waters close to camp. Others involve travelling by boat to rivers and lakes in the surrounding area. Your guide will plan the fishing around weather, water conditions and the opportunities available during your stay.
The journey is part of the experience: travelling through fjords, passing mountains and icebergs, then stepping ashore with your fly rod to explore another river.

Stay at Lax-á Camp
Lax-á Camp combines a remote setting with comfortable twin-bed cabins arranged around a shared dining lodge.
After a day on the river, return for a good meal, a sauna and an evening with fellow anglers. Full-board meals are included, and the menu can feature local ingredients such as Arctic char and fresh cod.
It is a comfortable base for a week outdoors, with space to relax, sort tackle and share the day’s stories before heading out again the following morning.
Mountains, icebergs and wildlife
There is plenty to look at between casts.
South Greenland’s fjords are framed by mountains and glaciers, with drifting icebergs adding to the scenery on boat journeys. Watch for seals in the water, eagles overhead and, with luck, whales surfacing in the fjords.
Wildlife sightings vary, but the surrounding landscape is a constant part of the trip. Bring a camera—and binoculars if you enjoy watching wildlife.

Getting to camp
Plan your arrival into Qaqortoq Airport (JJU) in South Greenland.
Transfers between Qaqortoq and Lax-á Camp are included, along with the boat and ground transportation within Greenland required for the fishing programme. Flights are booked separately and are not included in the package price.
