Hæðagarðsvatn is a small lake but hides some good size fish. Brown trout up to 4 pounds are regularly caught as well as some good size char.
The best fishing in the lake is usually early season until about July when fishing gets tougher due to the abundance of weeds in the lakes in the later summer months.

Distance from Reykjavík is 260km and about 10km from the hamlet of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
