Lake Thingvallavatn – Full Service (ION beats)

Lake Thingvallavatn – Full Service Experience

This trip is dedicated to chasing some of the largest wild brown trout on Earth and trophy Arctic char in one of Iceland’s most dramatic landscapes. Lake Thingvallavatn is Iceland’s largest lake, only 40 minutes from Reykjavík, set by the UNESCO World Heritage site of Þingvellir National Park, the birthplace of the Icelandic parliament in 930 AD, and the visible meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The Fish of a Lifetime

The legendary ice-age brown trout of Thingvallavatn has evolved in complete isolation since the last glacial period. These fish are not just large; they are prehistoric in appearance, powerful beyond reason, and revered by anglers worldwide. Every cast has the potential for a fish you will never forget.

Included Beats

Fish Partner offers access to an unrivaled collection of premium beats around Lake Thingvallavatn, each with its own character and potential for trophy trout and char. Our guests may fish a selection of the following exclusive areas during their stay:

ION Beats Ölfusvatnsárós
Where the Ölfusvatnsá river flows into Lake Thingvallavatn, creating a powerful confluence that brown trout use as a migration and feeding corridor. In peak times, fish gather here in astonishing numbers
ION Beats Þorsteinsvík
A secluded geothermal bay where warm spring water bubbles into the lake, creating ideal feeding and resting grounds. Browns and char patrol these warmer pockets aggressively, offering close-quarter encounters in a surreal volcanic landscape.
Villingavatnsárós
The beat offers the opportunity to catch the giant ice age brown trout on small nymphs and dry flies. Streamers can also be strong.
Kárastaðir
Deep crevasses, volcanic shelves, and structure-rich water where the biggest browns hunt
Villingavatn
A smaller lake connected directly to Thingvallavatn, offering consistent action throughout the season. Giant browns enter Villingavatn to feed, and fish of extraordinary size can be caught here from opening day through autumn.
Kaldárhöfði
The Kaldárhöfði beat is in the southmost part of Lake Thingvallavatn where River Sog runs from the lake. The beat also stretches south into Lake Úlfljótsvatn
