The Blanda is legendary for its robust salmon, with sections ideally suited to both single and double-handed casting. As well as Atlantic Salmon brown trout and arctic char are frequently caught.
The Blanda River remains one of Iceland’s fishing community’s last great salmon mysteries. As one of the country’s largest river systems, it has witnessed enormous salmon runs over the centuries. In the early days, however, fishing was nearly impossible due to the river’s murky, silt-laden waters during the summer melt. This changed in 1991 when a dam was constructed 60 kilometers upstream from the ocean, transforming the river downstream into an angler’s paradise. Now, the summer waters have a turquoise blue tint, perfect for fishing. With a strict catch-and-release policy in place, the river’s salmon and trout populations remain robust and vibrant. Itinerary
- 08:00 am – Pick-up from your accommodation in Blönduós, Skagafjörður, Hvammstangi, or Sauðakrókur, or meet on location at our Long Valley Lodge and start fishing on the Blanda
- 12:00 pm – Lunch by the riverbank with snacks available throughout the day
- 06:00 pm – End of fishing session and return transfer to your accommodation
