Tungufljót in Biskupstungum (Trout beat)

Tungufljót in Biskupstungum (not to be confused with Tungufljót in Skaftártungu, a sea trout river with the same name) is a trout river about an hour’s drive from Reykjavík.

The Trout beats on Tungufljót are above waterfall Faxi and extend from where the tributary river Einholtslækur runs into Tungufljót as far upriver as you can reach. The tributaries Laugá River, Beiná River, and Almenningsá River are also included in the trout beat.

The best fishing method in Tungufljót proper tends to be streamer fishing whereas dry flies and nymphing tend to be more effective in the smaller tributaries.

The river runs through a beautiful area right on the popular sightseeing area the Golden Circle just a stone’s throw away from the famous Geysir.

For the 2024 season, Fish Partner will run the first-ever drift boat trips in Iceland on this beautiful river.
