Stæðavötn are located about 415 km from Reykjavík. The nearest township is Patreksfjörður, located around 50 km away. To get to the lakes, it’s best to park the car at the side of the road. From the road it takes around 10 minutes to hike up to the lakes.

Stæðavötn consists of two lakes. The upper lake is around 1 km long and 800 meters wide. The lower lake is a bit smaller at 700 meters long and 500 meters wide. Both lakes are great fun to fish and hold a decent amount of brown trout with sizes up to 4 pounds.

How to get there

Distance from Reykjavik is around 415 km and 50 km from the town on Patreksfjörður. Follow route 1 out of Reykjavik heading west. Turn right on to road 60 (Vestfjarðavegur). After roughly 218 km, when you reach Hotel Flókalundur, turn on to road 62 (Barðastrandavegur). Follow the road for about 47 km before making a left turn on to road 612 (Örlygshafnarvegur). Follow road 612 for around 32 km until you reach the destination.
