Map

Laufavatn is a small lake in Rangárvallaafréttir by the foothill of Laufafell mountain in the south-central Highlands of Iceland.
It sits at 530m above sea level and is about 1.12 km² in size.  The lake is by the so-called Fjallabaksleið syðri (F-210) road. Easy access is to the lake provided you have a 4×4 as the F-210 is a gravel road.

In Laufavatn you’ll find vast numbers of Arctic Char, mostly small sizes but great fun in spectacular Highland surroundings.

The lake is opened when the F210 road opens and closes on September 1st.  Road status can be seen here:  https://www.vegagerdin.is/ferdaupplysingar/faerd-og-vedur/sudurland-faerd-kort/

Accommodations are available close by in mountain huts and campgrounds. information can be seen here: https://www.fi.is/is/skalar/skalar-ferdafelags-islands/alftavatn
