Eldvatn (fire water) is a seatrout paradise river in the south of Iceland. The river is surrounded by volcanoes and lava. The river comes from springs that originate from under the lava fields Eldhraun. This river is very well known by Icelanders, not because of the numbers of seatrout it gives off but the trophy fish wich is caught there. Some of the largest sea trout in Iceland run up Eldvatn and are caught up to and over 20 pounds. Eldvatn also produces Atlantic salmon and arctic char. The river is 25km long and is fished with 6 rods exclusive on both banks. The season is from 1st. of April to 20th of October. The prime time is firstly the spring fishing from 1st. of April to 1 of May; secondly, in the autum from late August to 20th of October. The best time to catch slamon is from late July to end of August. The arctic char is in the river all season. Eldvatn is a fly-only river and all caught seatrout must be released. However, it is allowed to keep caught salmon and char. There are many pools in the river, many more than you will find on the map. Single-handed rods of weight # 6-8  are recommended. Floating lines are recommended in mid and late summer but in spring and autumn when the water tempiture is low, sinking lines and tips are recommended.
